The Kimberly A. Nelson Foundation Branding and Website

The Kimberly A. Nelson Foundation

The Kimberly A. Nelson Foundation is a non profit established in 2010 to honor the memory of Kim Nelson, a beloved member of the Class of 2010 at Bridgewater-Raritan High School in Bridgewater, NJ, who passed away in September 2009. The mission of the Foundation is to provide an annual scholarship to a Bridgewater-Raritan High School senior who has been active in choir and musical theater as well as having demonstrated a committment to academic excellence and community service. The Foundation also supports, through grants, those educational initiatives which promote and encourage participation in vocal performance and musical theater.

The Kimberly A. Nelson Foundation needed a simpler, easier to maintain website and well as a recognizable logo to use on print materials. I wanted to create a site that would be easy for anyone on the team to update with new photos and news, and a logo that was both playful and sophisticated. Kim loved music, which I wanted that to be a big part of the logo, and she was also bubbly, kind, and dedicated. I ended up taking the simple melody 'You Are My Sunshine' and placing it in a never-ending circle, as a mark that could be used on print and web materials.

For the website, I discussed with the Foundation board about which pages and pieces of information were the most important for visitors to get to. The Bridgewater Sing Off, the annual singing competition, and the scholarship application and information were the highest priority. I went through and created an information architecture document of the current site, then created one for the new site. I removed the extraneous and duplicate pages on the site, and highlighted the Foundation's most important information, namely The Sing Off competition and the scholarships.
